TODAY'S GUEST
Bassjoi
Christian Drum & Bass DJ | Producer | S.O.C.A. Recordings
Bassjoi’s story begins long before she ever stepped behind the decks. On her birthday in 1996, she attended her first rave in Houston, Texas, an experience that would forever shape her identity as an old-school ’90s kandi raver and ignite a lifelong connection to underground electronic music. Her rave journey continued in Asheville, North Carolina, affectionately known as “Ashevegas,” during an era when nearly every form of electronic music was simply called “techno.”
But in 1998, one sound changed everything. While listening to DJ Keoki’s Altered-Ego-Trip, Bassjoi heard a track by DJ Dara unlike anything she had encountered before. She became obsessed with the sound and eventually discovered its name: drum & bass. That moment marked the beginning of a journey that would come full circle decades later.
